Short Profile

The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Indonesia (FISIP UI), founded in 1968, is one of the faculties with the largest number of study programs and students at the University of Indonesia. Until mid-2022, FISIP UI has 20 study programs, with more than 150 lecturers, and more than 3,500 students (odd semester 2022/2023) who are incorporated into seven departments, namely:

  1. Department of Communication Sciences;
  2. Department of Political Sciences;
  3. Department of Criminology;
  4. Department of Sociology;
  5. Department of Social Welfare Sciences;
  6. Department of Anthropology; and
  7. Department of International Relations.

Institutionally, FISIP UI is part of the State-Owned Legal Entity (BHMN) of the University of Indonesia. Since 2001, through Government Regulation number 152, the University of Indonesia has been placed as a BHMN, an institution whose management is autonomous from the government. With this status, the University has its own Bylaws, which are stated in the form of a decision of the Board of Trustees (MWA) of the University of Indonesia in 2003 through Decree No. 01/SK/MWA-UI/2003. Through the Decree of the Minister of Education ratifying Law No. 12 of 2012 concerning Higher Education. Finally, MWA decided that MWA would carry out the mandate of this law. In this law, the University of Indonesia together with six other BHMN became Legal Entity State Universities (PTN BH).

Main Duties and Institutional Functions of FISIP UI

The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences is one of the faculties within the University of Indonesia which carries out the main tasks and functions, as follows:

  1. Education within the framework of social and political science and carried out at undergraduate and postgraduate levels which is in line with and supports the direction of educational development at the university level.
  2. Research and/or innovation within the framework of the development of social and political science and knowledge carried out at the faculty level which is in line with and supports the direction of research and innovation at the University level.
  3. Community service and devotion within the framework of the application and development of knowledge and expertise in accordance with the field of social and political sciences or discipline which is carried out at the faculty level, in line with and supports the direction of community service and devotion at the University level.
  4. Improvement of the quality of education for students at all education levels.
  5. Improvement of the quality of research and/or innovation.
  6. Improvement of the quality of community service and devotion.
  7. Improvement of the quality and abilities as well as welfare for lecturers and education staff.

In carrying out its main duties, FISIP UI is supported by faculty organs consisting of the Faculty Academic Senate and the Board of Professors of Faculty. The executive body, called the Faculty Administration Center (PAF), is led by the Dean who reports directly to the Rector of the University of Indonesia. In carrying out his duties, the Dean is accompanied by the following main apparatus:

  • Deputy Dean for Education, Research and Student Affairs (Diklitma)
  • Deputy Dean for Resources, Ventures and General Administration (Sumdavum)
  • Faculty Secretary
  • Manager of Education and Student Affairs (Dikma)
  • Deputy Manager for Student Affairs
  • Manager of Research, Publication and Community Service (Rispubpengmas)
  • Manager of Human Resources (SDM)
  • Manager of Facility Operations and Maintenance (OPF)
  • Manager of Budget and Finance (AngKeu)
  • Manager of Cooperation, Venture and Alumni Relations (KVA)
  • Head of the Academic Quality Assurance Unit and Accreditation Data Office (UPMA and KDA)
  • Heads of Special Work Unit for Community Service and Devotion (UKKPPM)

Moreover, the performance of the Dean is also supported by the Department heads (including the Head of Study Program), the Head of the Research Ethics Committee, and the Head of the Sexual Violence Committee, all of whom report directly to the Dean. For daily faculty operations, the performance of the Dean is also indirectly supported by several unit coordinators.
