Andy Yentriyani, born on January 24, 1977, was a commissioner at the National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) from 2010 to 2014. Andy finished her undergraduate education at Universitas Indonesia’s Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, majoring in International Relations, and went on to pursue a master’s degree in Media and Communication at the University of London.
She has been involved in Komnas Perempuan since 2000, preventing and eliminating violence against women. Andy Yentriyani was appointed as Chair of the National Commission on Violence Against Women for the 2020-2024 period.
Another one of her interests is documenting stories about Indonesian women, their problems and their struggles to survive. She is also currently chairing Suar Asa Khatulistiwa (SAKA). Andy continues to strive to eliminate violence against women, which is still a major issue in modern society. Cases of violence are still occurring at a greater rate than their resolutions. She states that she has promised herself to be fully dedicated to victims of violence towards women. This dedication is marked by her involvement in Komnas Perempuan since 2000 in preventing and eliminating violence against women. There are two things that underlie Andy’s interest in the world of women. First, the May 1998 tragedy, in which sexual violence was one of the main problems. Second, she lost some friends because they had to get married at a young age, at a time when other junior high school students were still thinking about their dreams.
